Interindividual Explanations of Innovation in Architecture
Assuming that architectural knowledge is not the end but also the means of discourse, the following essay considers various sociological approaches to the notion of architectural innovation. Referencing Georg Simmel’s distinction between sociation and socialization, the author proposes a framework through which the dualism between individualist and determinist models of architectural production may be sublimated.
