Editors

Axel Sowa

has been chair of the Department of Architecture Theory at the Faculty of Architecture, RWTH Aachen University since 2007. He was editor in chief of L’Architecture d’Aujourd’hui in Paris from 2000 to 2007. His current research is focused on changes in the notion of mimesis; the question of imitation in modern contexts; and on the beginning of the industrial mass production of building components in the early 1800s.

Andrea Alberto Dutto (Guest Editor No. 13)

is Research and Teaching Associate at RWTH Aachen University—Chair of Architectural Theory. In 2017, he completed his PhD at the Politecnico di Torino in co-tutelle with the RWTH Aachen University. Between 2018 and 2020 he worked as Postdoctoral Researcher at Politecnico di Torino, where he was also appointed as Adjunct Professor.

Ela Kaçel (Guest Editor No. 12)

is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Architecture and Design of Bahçeşehir University in Istanbul. After studying architecture at YTU in Istanbul and at the AA in London, she received her PhD in the History of Architecture from Cornell University in 2009. As a Humboldt Fellow, she has lectured at RWTH Aachen in the Department of Architectural Theory and researched in the Institute for European Ethnology at the Humboldt University of Berlin. Currently she is co-curating an exhibition at the Museum Ludwig on the photography of labor migration in Cologne and the Rhineland.

Isabelle Doucet (Guest Editor No. 10 + 11)

is Senior Lecturer in Architecture and Urbanism at the University of Manchester/Manchester Architecture Research Centre. She is the author of The Practice Turn in Architecture: Brussels after 1968 (2015) and is currently studying counter-cultural architectures in 1970s Belgium.

Kim Förster (Guest Editor No. 10 + 11)

is Associate Director of Research at the Canadian Centre for Architecture in Montréal. He completed his PhD in architecture history at ETH Zurich and is currently working on environmental histories in architecture.

Lutz Robbers (Guest Editor No. 10 + 11)

holds a Ph.D. in the History and Theory of Architecture from Princeton University. He has taught at the RWTH Aachen, the Bauhaus-University Weimar, Columbia University and Princeton and has held research positions at the IKKM Weimar, the London School of Economics’ ‘Cities Programme’ and the German Forum of Art History in Paris.

Former Editors

Susanne Schindler is an architect and writer focused on the intersection of policy and design in housing, affiliated with ETH Zurich. She was a founding co-editor of Candide from 2009 to 2015.

Andres Lepik is professor of the history of architecture and curatorial practice at the Technical University in Munich. He was an editor of Candide from 2012 to 2014.

Anne Kockelkorn is an architectural historian focused on the neoliberal turn in housing and urbanism, affiliated with ETH Zurich. She was an editor of Candide from 2013 to 2015.
